7 Kid-friendly Halloween Movies

My family enjoys movie nights especially when the film makes us laugh. We’re just really big fans of comedy here. One movie genre we’re not fans of though is horror (we immediately change channels when a horror movie trailer comes on).

But just because we don’t like horror movies doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy halloween-themed movies, right? There are tons of halloween mvies that aren’t really scary. So here are some of my favorite kid-friendly halloween movies!

1. Monsters Inc

This is one of my favorite movies and though it’s not technically about halloween, it is about 2 monsters who work by scaring kids — the screams of which power their city’s power. But they find themselves in a sticky situation when a kid enters their world. It’s funny and you should really watch it if you haven’t yet.

2. Monsters University

Maybe I should have just included this in #1 but Monsters Inc and Monsters University are still 2 different movies so I just decided to separate them. Monsters University takes you back to when Mike and Sully were in college. It’s a hilarious story of their journey to becoming scarers.

3. Casper

I remember watching this in 6th grade with my classmates. I love Casper comics so it was awesome to watch the movie version of it. It stars Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci and a bunch of fun, friendly and nasty ghosts. The girls in my class especially liked it because of Devon Sawa who was at that time a cutie!

4. The Haunted Mansion

This movie was based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name. It stars Eddie Murphy as a real estate agent who needs to break the curse of the mansion in order to save his wife. It’s funny and definitely better than most Eddie Murphy films I’ve watched.

5. Hotel Transylvania

Hotel Transylvania is a place for monsters to have some rest and recreation away from humans. In short, no humans are allowed in that hotel. While Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein and other famous halloween characters are in the hotel, an ordinary person discovers the hotel. What follows is a funny and heartwarming series of events.

6. ParaNorman

Norman is a misunderstood boy who needs to step up and save his town from a curse because of his ability to speak with the dead. I’m not usually a fan of movies with this kind of animation but I did enjoy this one.

7.The Addams Family

Addams family might not be toddler-friendly, but it might be okay for older kids who already know that they shouldn’t be playing with an axe, with electricity and with all of Wednesday’s and Pugsley’s “toys”. Addams Family was one of my absolute favorite halloween movies when I was young so your family might enjoy it too!

  1. That was a really nice review of some “safe” Halloween Movies to watch. I also think you should have added The Night Before Christmas I think that’s what it’s called. It has Jack the Skelton trying to “get away from Halloween” and finds Christmas. It’s very funny and animated! We love to watch this on Halloween Night every year!! I, myself, love scary movies! The more, the merrier! I have SYFY on right now. The only Horror movies that I will NOT watch are about Vampires and the Devil. I’m not too overly thrilled with Zombies either! I do love all of the movies you mentioned and have seen them all! Thanks so much for the Great review of your top 7 kid-friendly Halloween Movies! I do appreciate it! Thanks again, Michele 🙂
