National Adoption Month Awareness $100 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway

We are sharing this post as part of a Bloggin’ Mamas Social Good Campaign, and were not compensated for doing so.

AdoptUSKidsGiveaway

Bloggin’ Mamas is sponsoring this giveaway in support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids, and the Ad Council. November is National Adoption Month and they are encouraging prospective parents to adopt older youth from foster care.

The theme for National Adoption Month is, “We Never Outgrow the Need for Family.” That’s because older children and youth still have many big milestones in their life they need a family for.

There are 415,000 children in the U.S. foster care system and 108,000 are waiting to be adopted. AdoptUSKids’ maintains a national photo listing service for children waiting to be adopted. Since the project launched in 2002, more than 25,000 children who were once photo listed on adoptuskids.org have been adopted and nearly 38,000 families have registered to adopt through the website. Nevertheless, older youth are disproportionately represented – approximately 41 percent of children and youth photo listed on adoptuskids.org are between 15 and 18 years old, but only 17 percent of those adopted have been in this age group.

Older youth and teens have lower adoption rates than younger children, and they often wait longer to be adopted. But no matter their age, all kids need a supportive, loving home and the teenage years are a critical period for growth.

Visit adoptuskids.org or to call 1-888-200-4005(English) or 1-877-236-7831 (Spanish) to receive the latest information about the foster care system and the adoption process. You can also visit the campaign’s communities on Facebook and Twitter.

National Adoption Month Awareness $100 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway — 32 Comments

  1. I learned that AdoptUSKids provides tools and technical assistance to support states, tribes, and territories in their efforts to connect children in foster care with families interested in adopting them.

  2. I read that since they’ve been posting photos more than 25,000 children have been adopted. I don’t personally know anybody that is adopted.

  3. I learned that you can see the kids who are waiting for adoption on the site! I don’t have personal experience with adoption, but I can tell you that I’d love to give these great kids a home!

  4. I learned that military families can adopt even if they are serving overseas and that the adult has to be at least 10 years older than the child. My husband was adopted when he was a newborn. We would love to adopt someday in the near future.

  5. I had no idea there were so many children in foster care. What a tragedy. So many children not taught to love and be loved. I wish I had room for 10. I don’t know anyone who was adopted or in foster care. All my friends grew up with 2 parents and siblings. Probably the last generation who can say that. So sad.

  6. I saw that you can see pictures of all the children waiting to be adopted! Our close friends are in the process of adopting the sweetest little girl! They have fostered her since she was 5 weeks old and is now 2 and 1/2! She has brought so much joy into our lives! She is truly a blessing to everyone who meets her

  7. I learned that there are over 400,000 kids in the foster care system and over 100,000 of those are waiting to be adopted.

  8. I learned that over 25 thousand of the children featured now live with permanent families. I personally do not have any experience with adoption, other than with the pets that I have adopted. I know that shelter pets make the best pets, and have to wonder if that’s true for kids as well.

  9. Most States do not have laws or formal policies prohibiting individuals’ eligibility to adopt or serve as foster parents based on sexual orientation. Instead, child welfare professionals and judges make placement decisions based on the best interest of the individual child.

  10. I learned that the are many different agencies that handle adoptions and that there are a lot of kids over the age of 13

  11. Learned November is adoption month and over 100,000 are still waiting to be adopted. Don’t know anyone around here that’s been adopted yet.

  12. I learned that U.S. citizens who want to adopt internationally are finding it more difficult because of new regulations.

Thank you for the chance to win 🙂

  13. I learned this when visiting the site; More than 250,000 children in the U.S. enter the foster care system every year-

  14. When I had my son, I was a drug addict, 16 years ago. My Aunt and Uncle adopted him, and I went through treatment, and got my life back. He is now a huge part of my life, and he has the best of both worlds.

  15. I learned the number of foster kids has increased to 250,000. My stepdad adopted me after he and my mom got married, and my daughter is adopted as well, out of foster care.

  16. I learned you can adopt kids from different states. I read one of the adoption stories about a girl in Oregon getting adopted by a family in Texas.

  17. I learned November is National adoption month. I know some people who were adopted and I think it is wonderful. I will go to site more often to learn more and tell friends.

  18. I learned that their #1 mission is to raise public awareness about the need for foster and adoptive families for children in the public child welfare system.

  19. My step sister and I were both adopted.I’m a very strong believer of adoption.there are so very many children who needs a forever home, and so very many people with love to give.blood does not make you family,it just keeps you alive.we are blessed with a tremendous extended family.thanks so very much for sharing.

  20. So sad how many kids go without foster care. Thank God for people who are able to do for this children. God bless them.

  21. It’s really sad that there are so many children in need of a home and family. It just doesn’t seem right. People go on about animals. Some, so much so I wish they had that same passion for the homeless children.
