Monroe And Main #DressYourBodyType

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all wear those clothes that models wear and look good in every single one of them? Thing is, we’re not all the same. Just because a certain outfit looks good on a model, doesn’t mean it will look good on everyone. We all need to find the styles that will work well with our body type.

Fortunately, finding the right outfit is now easier with Monroe And Main. Monroe And Main is a resource for helping women confidently dress to fit their style needs, balance their shape, and flatter their figure no matter the age. Monroe and Main clothing fits various body types in size 6-24 or S-3X.

They gave me a “How to Dress Your Body Type Kit” which includes a Monroe and Main measuring tape, plus a $185 Monroe and Main shopping spree for shapewear and an outfit. In dressing for our body type, it’s important for us to check our actual measurements. Sometimes we feel like we’re a certain shape because that’s how it sometimes looks in the mirror. But we have to realize that our shape changes as time goes by so it’s better to be sure and see the actual numbers so we can correctly identify our shape.

Measuring my body, I found out that my body type is triangle because my hips have the widest measurement. This reminded me of the time when I was in college and one of my friends told me I’m all hips. So I guess my shape hasn’t changed even though my size and weight have definitely changed.

Now as soon as I found out my body type, I had to check on the right shapewear.

Shapewear is something we all need. I know that nobody’s perfect and there’s probably one or two areas that need controlling in our bodies. And the reason why I chose the Braless Body Suit Shapewear is that it provides control for my tummy area and my thighs. Monroe And Main offers 16 shapewear products so you can choose the best one that will give you the control you need.

And now for the outfit! According to the guide, I need to wear outfits that draw attention to my upper body. I need to place visual weight on my shoulders with eye-catching prints and bright-colored tops, and wear dark pants. This helps me balance out my silhouette. Given this information, I chose the Bateau Neck Ruched Top and the Sailor Pant.

Monroe And Main 1

The Bateau Neck Ruched Top draws more attention to my upper body because of its color and its shape. The ruching on the tummy area also helps in making that area look smaller than it actually is. The black Sailor Pant, on the other hand, keeps my bottom half dark so that it doesn’t attract too much attention.

I added a long necklace to the outfit as well as a pair of dangling earrings to keep the attention on that area. I really loved the outfit I received from Monroe And Main! The items I received were well-made and felt very smooth against my skin.

  2. I took my measurements and I found out that I have an hourglass shape and I how I wear my clothes to flatter that shape is important.

  3. I learned that for my body type I should be wearing more fitted clothing.

  5. I learned the correct way to take my measurements. Is size 6 the smallest size they carry? I wear a size 4. I usually don’t win anyways, but if I did, I’d shop for tops.

  6. They give such good descriptions of shapes that identifying is pretty easy, even without measurements.

  7. I really appreciated their focus is on all figures and not just one. I did not realize there were so many choices and it was good to learn there are clothes that flatter all! 🙂

  15. I learned that you should always pair bold and bright colors with more neutral colors. Thank you.

  16. I learned how to properly measure my body and that I should try wearing some bright colors and prints.

  17. Oval
For oval body shapes, the waist measurement is larger than the bust and hip numbers. This is a very common body shape – if you have it, add some definition to your body by wearing structured and belted tops or jackets and dresses that help you emphasize a natural waist. Tops that highlight the thin area just below your bust will add instant definition.

  18. I learned yet again my body type does not fit any of them! I am a combo of 2 of them! But I learned the difference between the types!

  19. I learned that women with rectangle shapes are great candidates for mixing and matching prints and colors!

  21. I found that I am an oval, and that I can use that body frame knowledge to pick out outfits that will flatter.

  22. I learned that I am an oval shape! I had no idea there were so many different body types/shapes.

  23. I learned that I am an inverted triangle, but I like how they suggest positive things to focus on- I have always struggled with my broad shoulders, especially with a small and short frame.

  24. I learned that I should highlight the small area just under my bust for my body type. I didn’t know that at all, so this information is amazing! Thank you so much! I have an Oval body type, so now I know a little more about dressing to emphasize my areas that I like, and play down the areas that are maybe not so nice!

  25. I learned that a vast majority of women do not know how to properly accentuate their body type well and that I am among them. I may be an hourglass figure but I am also overweight, so that could change once the pounds drop. The blue top that you are wearing is striking and I love how you are wearing those shoes, along with properly tailored pants.

  26. I learned that I have an hourglass shape. I also learned about their way of measuring your waist, as I’ve never seen it demonstrated that way.

  27. I love the Dress for your Body Type article it showed that there are lots of different things to take into consideration before buying clothes that are right for your body. Alice, you look great I love the blue combination 🙂 I would have loved to enter the contest but unfortunately I live in Canada 🙂 maybe next time!

  28. I learned that I should try wearing layer tops to draw attention to my torso to best fit my body type!

  29. I learned how to correctly identify my shape and make good clothing choices.

  30. I learned there are 5 main body shapes and I am an hourglass shape.

  31. I learned that they show 5 different basic body types which is intereesting .

  32. Apparently I’m a rectangle — how unglamorous sounding! Interesting that I’ve always found empire waisted dresses to be the most flattering on me but they aren’t even mentioned here for rectangles!

  33. I learned that I apparently don’t know my shape. I thought I could just look at the pics and tell what it was, but I’m going to have to measure instead.

  34. “It’s a good idea to take your measurements every few months anyway”

Sigh. I wish this wasn’t true, but my body type has DEFINITELY changed the past 5 years.

  35. I love that you can determine your body shape. I could never figure out what shape i was and this really helped.

  36. I have learned that I have a triangle shape and that I should wear straight cut or wide leg pants

  37. I love your outfit choice! The color of the top is so flattering and I love ruched tops anyway. The pants are gorgeous. I love wide legs on pants! I learned that, while I am still an hourglass shape, the ratio between my waist and hips is ever lessening. One of these days, I will be a rectangle! But when that happens, I will be happy because I’ll know how to dress, thanks to guides like the one at Monroe and Main!

  38. I learned that I’m a hourglass shape and should wear bold colors and prints to accentuate my assets.

  39. I found that I am still an hourglass and should wear monochromatics to downplay my curves.

  40. Hourglass body shapes are defined by a waist that’s smaller than both the bust and hips. You have an hourglass body shape if your bust and hips are visually wider and similar in measurements, and if your waist measurement is smaller than the other two.

  41. I learned that I am hourglass but not quite sure because I am 50 pounds overweight. It is hard to find clothes that fits me nevertheless works well with my body shape. But, I like the simplicity that Monroe and Main have done to finding your body shape.

  42. I learned that the color or print that a fabric is is just as important as the cut of the piece of clothing when you are trying to figure out if something looks good on your body type.

  43. I took my measurements and learned that I am hourglass figure. I should wear bold colors or prints that highlight my assets.

  44. I learned that I am an Inverted Triangle (unfortunately because I have very broad shoulders – not the bust line – boo hoo) SO I learned how to accentuate the positive and minimize the negative by:
Pairing patterned and colorful bottoms with dark, solid-colored tops for beautiful hourglass-like proportions and draw attention away from my oversized shoulders.

    GOOD ADVICE!

  45. Great tips! Especially since I might be a little shorter and a little thicker than some! Thanks for all your giveaways! 🙂

  46. I learned that I am an oval shape and need to wear clothing that gives me definition of a natural waistline. Tops that highlight the thin area just below your bust will add instant definition.

  47. I had no idea that the correct way to measure your waist was to find your natural crease and the center of tape measure goes down and meets at the belly button.. This is truly useful and good to know info! Thank you!!

  48. I never really took some of those things into consideration! Really glad I found those tips. Especially what my body type should not wear!

  49. I have an hourglass shape. I don’t wear the bold prints and colors to accentuate it though.

  50. It would be nice if people dressed for their body types. Just because something looks good on someone else, or on the rack, doesn’t mean it will look good on you. I always try to keep that in mind and, if possible try an outfit on before buying it.

  51. Dressing for your body type is really important! There are some clothes that I love but I just have to accept I will never be able to wear them, they don’t look good on me because of my body type. That’s okay. There are other things that I can wear that make me look good! 🙂
