Families. We’ve all got one. But the once traditional “nuclear” family has evolved into a kaleidoscope of possibilities—start with parents, add a dash of half/step/full/adopted siblings, a side of grandparents, a pinch of aunts, uncles, cousins, a splash of pets, topped off with close friends (and all the combinations thereof). Now you’ve got a modern family — each uniquely quirky — yet picture perfect in its own way.
I consider my family pretty traditional but made unique by the blend of different personalities and situations. We don’t always see eye-to-eye on things, but family is family. In the end, we know we’ll never wish each other any harm and that our love will always prevail — yes, even in long-time conflicts. We’re not perfect, but I love how the imperfect things in our life make up a beautiful family identity.
What is it about your modern family that you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world? Explore the things that make other families unique by watching one of the titles in the list below. Then, ask your kids what it is that makes your family special. After all, family is what you make it.
Grace and Frankie
Grace and Frankie, Netflix’s new funny and fearless original comedy featuring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, is a perfect example of how today’s families can shift, rearrange and blend in unexpected ways. When Grace and Frankie’s husbands leave them after 20 years of marriage—to be with each other—the women find themselves facing a change that they never expected, but they shift their perspective to get through it together with the support of their new blended family and, of course, a sense of humor.

I don’t use NETFLIX. But I watched “Song of the sea” animation movie yesterday and it was absolutely amazing. You could catch that if it’s ever on NETFLIX. It’s suitable for family.
these are a lot of great movies. I seen some of them and want to see the rest
Having read the bit on “Gracie & Frankie”, I am almost tempted to sign up for Netflix!!!
You should we watched the entire season in one night, super funny!
I love Lily’s driftwood bay & so do the kids. Nice to know that it is on Netflix.
I have never tried netflix. Can you rent per movie, or do you have to sign up for it?
Hi Lisa! You’ll have to sign up for it (starts at $7.99 per month). They have a huge collection of movies and shows so it’s a good subscription for those who love watching movies. You can try it out for free for 1 month. I don’t think you need a credit card when you sign up for your free month. -Alice 🙂
