Valentines Day

Valentines Day is a good day to express how much you love your spouse or loved one.

While I believe that we all need to show love every day, I do know that a lot of people become more romantic and thoughtful on this day. And there are many Valentine’s Day-themed promos and specials.

But our expression of love does not necessarily have to be a grand presentation with fireworks. Because most of the time, it’s the small things and the small gestures that give the loudest shout of “I love you” to our spouses. We just really have to know their love language (words, service, touch, quality time or gifts) and express our love using that language.

So with that, I give you 5 simple ways to say I love you this Valentines Day.

  1. Prepare a “hearty” breakfast for your loved one. Make your loved one’s Valentine’s Day breakfast a little different from others by creating heart-shaped pancakes and adding some heart-shaped strawberries on the side. I’m sure someone whose love language is service will appreciate this.
  2. Leave a sweet note in his wallet or bag. While they’re having breakfast, or perhaps while they’re in the shower, slip a sweet note in his wallet or bag (basically any thing they’re sure to open or look at when they’re at out). In your note, tell them you love them and why you do. A variation of this is to sneak a calendar reminder on their mobile phone and type in your love note. If your loved one’s love language is words, this will most probably make them smile all throughout the rest of their day.
  3. Hug him/her for 20 seconds. I read an article somewhere about hugging your loved one for 20 seconds. Hugging for 20 seconds supposedly releases oxytocin (the love hormone) and makes both huggers feel more loved. Whether or not that’s true, prolonged hugging will make someone whose love language is touch feel loved.
  4. Give him/her a simple DIY gift. Some people just love receiving gifts — and they don’t have to be expensive. Those whose love language is gifts find more meaning in receiving gifts or tokens especially when they know the giver put a lot of thought or effort into it. Pinterest would be a great place to find ideas for this.
  5. Surprise him/her with a movie date night. Spend some quality time with your loved one over a romantic movie. Here’s a quick date night checklist to help you get ready:

  7. Valentines is a Bittersweet day for me so it’s sorta a weird day in my house My Mom passed on V-Day then 6 yrs later My Daughter was born on V-Day so we don’t really focus on each other like we should so thanks for the tips on how to do it cheaply 🙂

  8. Valentines day is a great way to show you care with little things and big things. Just doing something nice is a great way to show you care and valentines are easy to do too!

  9. I like the ideas but I think we should try to do sweet things like this everyday for our loved ones not just for Valentines day.

  10. I think the note idea can be done at any time not just feb 14, but i till really like the idea!

  11. I make sure to have his favorite meal cooked for dinner. plus I put a secret note in his wallet!

  12. Love these ideas. I’m sure my hubby would love a date night. Seems like we don’t get out by ourselves often enough.

  13. I love gelato. I like salted caramel and white raspberry. I always hide it in the freezer when I pick some up.

  14. My husband and I used to leave sweet notes all the time for each other. Maybe it’s time to pick that habit back up. I think the simple everyday things say I love you. For instance my husband takes out the trash but sometimes he gets surprised when I say, I’ve already taken care of it. And sometimes he goes in the kitchen and does the dishes or even cooks dinner without being asked. Love that. Thanks for the chance to win this awesome giveaway and I love your tips.

  15. To express my love for someone on valentines day i would come early from work and make some delicious recipes which my husband wouls love and have an amazing time with him.

  17. Such simple suggestions, but imagine if we were that caring every day! What a difference it would make in our relationships!

  18. These are good suggestions. I always try to do one of these on valentines and during the year.

  19. Because we get up at different times, cooking breakfast for him would be hard -dinner would be better.
I still do leave post it love notes! But I already know what my husband loves: Gift Cards to his favorite golf course & to have his back scratched for a half & hour or more!! What can I say – we’re old 🙂

  20. I love all of the ways you listed. When I read the title of this post, my first thought was a hug.

  21. I love these ideas, especially the breakfast one because there’s something so nice about somebody making you a breakfast with pancakes, waffles and the like!

  22. Little things mean a lot. Just the other day, my husband asked me what kind of food I’d liked. Even though he was cooking. He knew I wouldn’t like what he was making so he wanted to run out and buy me a meal. I thought that was very nice.

  23. I am all about the movie date night. With kiddos nights out are few and far between.

  24. Love the ideas, especially a good hearty breakfast. Sometimes it’s so much sugury candy and sweets it’s nice to start off something nice and hearty!

  25. Sometimes saying I love you can be done silently. A simple look shares without saying a word can speak volumes.

  26. You can say I love you with a simple look. Or, just the small everyday things that we do for each other.

  27. Music is good. A special song that you fell in love to or a concert. Whatever, little things do mean a lot. Although, gifts are appreciated too. Jewelry dear, if you’re reading behind my shoulder!

  28. I love the leaving a note. When my husband and I first met he used to write me letters all the time, and either slip them in my purse or leave them in a strange place to be found. I still have all of them!

  29. for us, a meal alone would be a gift. 5 kids, 2 sons-in law, 1 daughter-in-law, 3 grandchildren and a son who brings home friends from college, a meal alone would be heavenly.

  30. Just spending time with the ones I love on Valentine’s Day is how I show them love

  31. You don’t need a card manufactured holiday to tell or show someone that you love them. I know that I’m loved when I have troubles and I’m not judged. I’m encouraged. That let’s me know that thought of.

  32. Love the idea and totally agree that a nice homemade dinner made with love beats all the valentine gifts

  33. We both really try to do all of these things every day. We try to have at least one date night every week also.

  34. I like to make a favorite dinner – maybe something that I don’t usually make and a great dessert.

  35. Simple is always best. When the kids were young I used to love the handmade items. I still have quite a few even 20 some years later.

  36. These are great ways to say I love you, Breyers Gelato Indulgences is definitely a nice start, I’d love to try the chocolate caramel. Thank you for sharing this post.

  37. My children love to cook too its usually dinner for the family which is so special both of my kids have almost died cancer, heart transplant so being together is wonderful over dinner

  38. I love all of your ideas; they are so sweet and romantic! Not everything has to be a big deal and there are so many small, but meaning ful ways to show someone you care!

  39. When I want to show my husband that I love him, I give him a quick 5-minute neck and shoulder rub. He loves it and it costs nothing! 🙂

  40. I normally agree 100%. Today I’m in a bit of a snit. It’s valentines and a big anniversary coming up. I rarely ask for anything. There is one expensive item I want and I’m being told it’s too much. So sometimes yes, fireworks are called for.

  41. I like the “hearty” breakfast idea; we had heart cookie cutters as gift favors at our wedding. I can use one of those extra ones to make something extra special.

  44. This is really awesome! It brought tears to my eyes. How simple gestures and a touch could bring back the spark that couples have lost during every day life. Thank you for the ideas on how to rekindle the love once had.

  45. I scream, you scream we all scream for ice cream haha I can’t believe I remembered that from my childhood but isn’t it so true!

  46. This is a great posting! I’m not sure what the secret is to making a relationship last but I have been married now for over 30+ years. We just try to show each other how much we love each other on a daily basis and treat them the way you want to be treated.

  47. I think that I would like to try the Chocolate Caramel flavor. Two of my favorite flavors

  48. I was inspired by this post. I left a note in my husband’s lunch the other day. I think he liked it, he texted me back. 🙂

It’s so important that the person you love knows without a doubt how you feel about them…not ONLY on Valentine’s, but everyday of the year!
