Ebook Review | NIV Once-A-Day Bible: Chronological Edition

You may have seen a couple of Bible reviews on this blog in the past year, and most of them are actual physical Bibles. Just so I can try out something new, I decided check out a Bible in ebook form. Thing is, this one isn’t like the usual Bible app some of us have on our smartphones.

The NIV Once-A-Day Bible: Chronological Edition organizes the New International Version Bible — the world’s most popular modern-English Bible — into 365 daily readings placed in chronological order. This softcover edition includes a daily Scripture reading followed by a short devotional thought written by the staff at the trusted ministry Walk Thru the Bible.

At first, I didn’t realize what they meant when they said that the NIV Once-A-Day Bible: Chronological Edition is in chronological order. I even thought, “aren’t all Bibles in chronological order from Genesis to Revelation”? But when I downloaded it onto my Kindle, I realized that by “chronological”, they actually mean the timeline of events that happened in the Bible.

This means that some books or chapters went before others. For example, the book of Acts is split into several chunks, with some of Paul’s letters to the churches found in between. Honestly, I found this format interesting. It allowed me to understand what Paul was saying to a church in light of his experiences as mentioned in the Acts chapters preceding it.

You’ll also find short devotions after each cluster of chapters that can help you as you meditate on the Word you just read. And if you follow the daily reading plan of this book, then you’ll have read the whole Bible after 365 days!

Overall, I’d say this is a good Bible format. It’s especially helpful for some who, like me, appreciates a clearer timeline for the events in the Bible.

BUY IT! The NIV Once-A-Day Bible: Chronological Edition is available at Zondervan.com and Amazon.com.

  1. This would make a great gift for Christmas, I love that It contains short devotions after each cluster of chapters, very helpful.

  2. I am considering buying this bible for my sister and my sister in law. They will both enjoy reading it.

  3. I do a daily chronological bible study too, not this one, but I have to agree with you about it being a better way to understand some of the events in the bible by reading them in the order of how they happened. I am only half way through it, but it is really interesting to see how many different chapters interact with one another, when set up like this..

  4. Thanks for the Terrific Review of the Ebook NIV Bible! I do not have a Kindle, however, I would love to own one! I think this sounds wonderful. 6. At first, I had a hard time understanding the Bible, because you have different writers talking about their experiences & what they learned of Jesus’ teachings throughout the Bible like willy-nilly. Understanding the time frames in the order that they happened (miracles & all) would help me understand better. Great concept!!

  7. One of my new year’s resolutions is to read more devotional material. This sounds perfect for me. One a day and in chronological order. Perfect!
