Moses Leads The People | Book Review

I received a copy of Moses Leads The People for purposes of evaluation. Thoughts are my own.

Moses Leads The People

Moses Leads The People is a retelling of the familiar Bible story about how God used Moses to free the Israelites from captivity in Egypt. It is a Level 2 book, which is designed for newly independent readers and is part of the I Can Read! series based on the bestselling Adventure Bible — the #1 Bible for kids.

Moses Leads The People has a total of 32 pages which is short enough for a kid’s attention span, yet long enough to give a good retelling of the well-known Bible story.

Moses asked God, “Are you sure I am the right man?”

The Israelites are in slavery in Egypt, and God wants Moses to help set them free. But Moses is afraid no one will listen to him. And the Pharaoh is stubborn! He doesn’t want to let God’s people go. Even when God sends many plagues to Egypt, the Pharaoh still says no.

Then God sends the tenth plague. Will Pharaoh finally let God’s people go?

I read this story to my 3 year old who so far only knows his ABCs and isn’t really reading yet. Given that this book is designed for kids who can already read with minimal supervision, I appreciate the fact that the authors used simple words so that my son can still follow the story even though the book was written with bigger kids in mind.

Because I’m pretty sure my son didn’t understand everything I read to him, I just made sure I pointed to the illustrations to make the story come alive in his imagination. I think the illustrations are really nice. But there were just a few spreads that I think could use some lighter colors — like the pages for the burning bush and the egyptian slaves. Or perhaps I just really prefer that the words I read on books have a light background.

All in all, I think this is a good book to add to my family’s collection. I love that I’m able to read a Bible story to my son with a book that’s both age-appropriate and accurate.

BUY IT! Moses Leads The People is available for purchase at Zondervan.com for only $3.99. You can also get it from Amazon.com for the same price.

  14. I have to say this story is amazing,,, I know God likes to use people to do his job, or what he has planned out…… I often wonder when something is going to happen again to where God will decend upon us or show us something .. After all we do not live the the biblical times and things have changed……….. I never hear about GOD saving that person from that ship or someone leading his people today..

  17. I love I Can Read books they are great for readers starting out and also do have nice pictures like you said for the younger kids that still need read too and they are not so long that when you get read it again you are not taking another long bit of time to do it

  18. I have always said to plant the seed to learn about our Heavenly Father early!! They can grow with Biblical guidance throughout their lives. The Bible is very interesting – with adventures and mysteries to keep children and adults interested and wanting to learn more. I love books like these for children with illustrations, etc. to keep their attention. They will need God their whole life and HE will be there for them – so teach your children well!! The Bible stories are NOT fantasies!!

  19. It does look like a nice book. It seems like a great way to introduce Bible stories to the young child.

  20. This books sounds wonderful , this happens to be one of my favorite stories of the bible, Its truly amazing what God can do.
