When I was young, some women in our neighborhood always made sausage corn dogs and sold it to students in our area. What I loved about their sausage corn dogs was that the batter they used isn’t the usual corn dog batter. They used a sweet waffle mix which complemented the salty taste of the sausage so well that we always bugged our parents to buy us some.
For some reason, I can’t find corn dogs like that anymore, so I decided to just make one for myself. It’s really easy to make so any kitchen novice like me can perfect it without needing much practice.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- For the batter:
- 2 cups pancake/waffle mix
- 1 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 12 pcs Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage Links
- 12 skewers
- Karo syrup for glazing
- Most importantly, a corn dog maker! Because I honestly have no idea how to make these without one!
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Pre-heat the corn dog maker.
- Mix all of the ingredients for the batter in a bowl until you get a smooth consistency.
- Insert skewers into sausages.
- Pour batter in each corn dog mold until about three quarters full.
- Put a sausage in each of the mold and add more batter on top of the sausages.
- Close the lid on the corn dog maker and wait for about 5 minutes.
- Check the waffles and add more batter or flip as needed.
- Place cooked waffles on a plate and pour syrup on them.
- Enjoy!
Pretty simple right? You just really have to have a corn dog maker!
This was such a hit at home and I encourage you to try it if you haven’t tasted sausage waffles yet! You can also put hotdogs, cheddar cheese (or any kind of cheese you prefer) instead of sausages.

I have never thought about this with sausage! I actually had the pleasure of having a “waffle dog” last year but i am very intrigued to try it with sausage!
This looks good
I wouldn’t know how to make these without a corn dog maker and I don’t have one.
This looks delicious I can’t wait to give it a try. I’d also like to try the Smoked Sausage & Potatoes with Broccoli Recipe. Thank you for sharing this recipe post.
I know you can buy similar sausage waffles on a stick, but I had no idea you could make these yourself, great money saver, wonder if you could freeze these?
I haven’t tried freezing these waffles yet but I guess it’s fine. The texture of the waffle might be different when reheated but I think it’ll still taste good! 🙂

That’s an interesting recipe. I have never tried a corn dog.
YUM! These look so delicious. I’ve never had waffle sticks before, but I’ve had pancake sticks and they were amazing. I’m loving the extra protein for breakfast too! A breakfast that is rich in protein always wakes me up and keeps me full until lunch time rolls around 🙂
We make home made corn dogs all the time. I wonder if you can make these without a maker? It seems like it would be the same.
The maker mainly is for shaping the waffle. But yes, I guess you can cook the mix first just like you would cook a pancake then roll it around the sausage. The corndog maker just makes it a lot easier to have the perfect shape. 🙂
