NIV Streams In The Dessert Bible Review

I received a copy of the NIV Streams In The Dessert Bible for purposes of evaluation. Thoughts are my own.

NIV Streams

Just a couple of weeks ago, I shared my thoughts on the NIV Pink Bible which is basically a Bible in the New International Version with 9 short devotionals and encouragements for people who have been or are affected by breast cancer.

Now let me tell you about another NIV Bible. Obviously, I can’t really compare the contents of 2 NIV Bibles because they have the same Scripture inside. But it’s the extra features that makes one Bible different from another.

Are you in a desert experience? Do you need hope, comfort, and encouragement so you can burst forth like a sparkling, clear river? Let your thirsty soul be restored and refreshed through the daily devotions in the NIV Streams in the Desert Bible!

NIV Streams In The Dessert has a large target audience — any person who has a need for hope, comfort, and encouragement. And I think we all have and will need this at one point or another in our lives. This Bible has a unique hardcover that makes it look like it’s worn out and old but if you look closely (or if you touch it), you’ll realize that it’s just the cover art.

The NIV Streams In The Dessert Bible has 365 hopeful daily readings — one for each day of the year — that aim to revive and refresh today’s generation of faithful sojourners. It seeks to provide devotions in modern, easy-to-understand language that beautifully captures the timeless essence of the original version written by L. B. Cowman-a pioneer missionary in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917.

While the devotions in this Bible were originally written by Cowman, this devotional Bible has been edited by James Reimann. It maintains the beauty of the original Cowman writings while making the devotionals more accessible for the readers of today.

I like that the devotions are placed near the text that it pertains to. I’ve seen lots of devotional Bibles where the devotion is placed randomly which can be confusing. Not with this one though. The devotions are also easy to understand so anyone can appreciate it.

I personally own a couple of Bibles in different versions. Having different versions can sometimes be a life saver for whenever I need to do an in-depth study of Scriptures. But the one I use for my daily devotion and Bible reading is NIV — mainly because it’s a lot easier to read than the King James version.

BUY IT! NIV Streams In The Desert Bible is available for purchase at Zondervan.com (which offers LOTS of really nice Bibles).

  6. After I had my stem cell transplant, I had to have fluids, aredia, etc. given to me at my oncologist’s office. A few of us at a time, were in the treatment room in chairs lined up in a row, right next to each other. Depending on the treatments, the times we were in the dr.’d office could range from minutes to hours. I got to know a few patients from seeing them all the time. I was usually trying to encourage people with God’s word. Plus, I am a card, book, cd, dvd giver. This book definitely is the kind I look for. Thanks because I have never heard of this book before. What better gift of encouragement than God’s promises!!

  7. This Bible Sounds Wonderful! I have a few bibles as well, but nothing that is “easy to read and understand” I love the fact that it has a certain reading or message for every day of the year! This Bible sounds like one that I would definitely love to own! However, as you know, I cannot purchase anything right now! However, In the future, when things chance around here, I may be able to order it! Thanks so much for the terrific review and information on this NIV Bible! I honestly do appreciate it! Thanks, Michele 🙂
