I was compensated for this post. All thoughts are my own.
I’ve been living in San Jose, CA for a little over 5 years but I still can’t say I already know where to go for specific services we need. So I end up calling my friends who have lived most of their lives in this area to ask for recommendations. I also check online review sites like Yelp to see which ones have good reviews.
But since we know that it’s more likely for people to leave an online review if they experienced something negative, those reviews may be a little bit biased. Either the reviews are really negative or really positive (in the case of loyal fans of that business or maybe even fake positive reviews).
I mostly prefer to listen to my friend’s recommendations because they can give me an unbiased review of services in our area. They can tell me without any “filter” whatever’s good and whatever’s bad so that I can create a more realistic view of that business/company/restaurant.
Now wouldn’t it be great to have your friends’ recommendations at your fingertips so that you can access it any time?
GemShare gives us exactly that. GemShare is the first service focused on gathering the best recommendations from your trusted network for the things you need to manage your daily life. Think of it like a magical shared Rolodex, with your friends’ best recommendations at your fingertips whenever and wherever you need them.
Currently, it’s only available in the Apple App Store. But it will soon be available on the Google Play Store for those using Android.
To join a group or network on GemShare
Now the first thing we’d like to do is to build our network of trusted people for recommendations. Joining a group on GemShare is very easy.
Simply click on “Network”, then click “Browse groups in my area”. You can then either scroll through the listed groups to find ones you’d like to join, or type in the name of the group if you already know it.
And of course, don’t forget to join the “Bay Area Mommy” group. You might only be able to see it if you live within a 50-mile radius of San Jose, CA. If you join the “Bay Area Mommy” group, then you’re eligible to win a $125 Amex gift card. See the details towards the end of this post!
To add a gem on GemShare
Adding a “gem” or a recommendation on GemShare is very easy. Simply click on “My Gems” at the bottom of the screen, then click on “Add a Gem” at the top of the screen. You will then be taken to a page where you can search for the business, restaurant or service provider you would like to recommend.
As you type, a list of matching business will appear below the text box similar to the suggestions you see when you search something on Google. Once you see the name of the business you’re looking for, click on it and a details page will appear. Here you can add any description or reason why you’re recommending this business to your friends.
Don’t forget to click on “Save” after you’re done so your gem will appear on your list!
As you add more friends and more gems, GemShare will become indispensable for you as you try looking for any service you’ll need in your area! And because the recommendations are given by people you actually know and trust, you don’t have to think twice about trying new services.
