Keeping cool in the summer is very important. I don’t know how hot it gets in your city but here in San Jose, temperature can range from 70s to 100s during summer (I know that for some cities, 100F is pretty normal but not here).

If it gets really hot in your city, having an air conditioner is a must. And believe it or not, the apartment we’re renting doesn’t have one. We only realized that on the first summer of our stay here. So we had to go look for a portable air conditioner. While we were able to purchase one that works okay, I had to put a fan in front of the unit just so the cold air can reach the other parts of our room. A portable air conditioner can also be a good back until you get ac repair until then at least you won’t have to worry about your house getting really hot.

So I consider myself really blessed when I was invited to become a Haier Ambassador. I knew I just had to pick one of their portable air conditioners to replace the one we have here. So I chose the Haier 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote.

I immediately unboxed this as soon as it arrived at my door. I couldn’t wait for my husband to get home from work just so he can set it up. I want to consider myself a “handy mommy” so I went ahead and set it up all by myself.

It was very easy! I just had to connect one end of the tube to the unit and the other end to the window panel, after measuring and fitting it in our window opening. I plugged it in and voila! We got a new portable air conditioner that works well!

With the Haier Portable Air Conditioner, I don’t have to use a fan together with it to make sure the cold air can get to the other side of our room (although both are still on one side of our room).

Even my husband noticed that this one works a lot better than the previous brand we were using — and to think this one’s a bit smaller in size. Using this new unit also is a lot easier for us because it has the Auto Evaporation Technology so there’s no need for us to empty any bucket of water every now and then.

And it doesn’t only work as a cooler; you can also use it as a dehumidifier. Although we don’t usually need a dehumidifier, it’s good to know that we can use it for that purpose if we need to.

Overall, I’m happy with the Haier Portable Air Conditioner. This seemingly small unit works well in our room, and since it’s portable, I can easily move it anywhere we need some cool air.

Haier Portable Air Conditioner Review #HaierAmbassador — 56 Comments

  1. How often did you have to empty the water? I love these portable stand alone units but I am always worried about how often I will have to empty the water.

    • Hi Kelly! One of the things I really liked about this is that it has Auto Evaporation Technology. I don’t have to empty the water at all! 🙂

  2. I’ve been looking for one to put on the third floor of my house. I can’t use a regular air conditioner because of the windows. Portable sounded good, but because of the hose I still can’t. Its sooooooo hot up there lol.

  3. This looks like a great unit. I like that it doesn’t take up much space and is easy to move from one room or place to the next.

  4. Got one of these last year, It is a life saver. My bedroom went from 50°C (122°F) to a cool 20°C (68°F).

  5. The place we’re renting doesn’t have air conditioning either. This Haier Portable Air Conditioner sounds wonderful, we really need to get one of these. Thank you for sharing this review.

  6. I have full house air but if I didn’t this would be good to know about. Thanks for the review.

  7. This is exactly what we need in our house. We live in an old family house that believe it or not we have no ducts/air vents. We have 1 window unit and it’s pretty old. The fact that this one is portable and you made it sound real easy to hook up would be great for when r family visits. I hate when they come in the summer and have to sleep in a hot bedroom but we keep the one in the tv room

  8. I was just telling my husband today that it would be great to have a portable air conditioner because it costs so much to run the air in our whole house! Love how perfectly it fits into a small space!

  9. This portable ac unit sounds like it would be a nice investment. Our current window unit has decided to leak into the house and by the time we noticed, it had already funneled water between the sheetrock and the latex paint on the wall. I’ll admit, it did make a pretty impressive, albeit expensive, water balloon. So there’s one advantage of this portable unit right there. It also would pretty nice to be able to move the unit from room to room as needed since the kitchen gets quite hot at meal times. There you have it, portable unit: 2, window unit: 0.

  10. This AC unit would be so nice. I spend a lot of time in each room so it would be great to have a unit I could move to the room I need it in. Thanks for sharing

  11. sounds great.and i like that you dont have to empty a bucket of water all the time.

  12. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this product I have thought about getting a portable air conditioner before but I was worried it wouldnt be as good as a regular one.

  13. This would be perfect for our basement that stays warm and damp all the time. Small but yet powerful. Love that is also a dehumidifier.

  14. We only have one air conditioning vent in our family room downstairs. This would work great down there. We use lot of fans in the summer time and portable heaters in the winter.

  15. An apartment with no air conditioner? That’s outrageous! I’m not handy at all but I would’ve figured out how to install that too.

  16. I’d hate to have an apartment with NO CONDITIONER. This product looks however very useful, it looks beautiful and looks as if it would provide some help beating the heat!

  17. Hi! I want to have one of these and what I love about this is that it has Auto Evaporation Technology. I don’t have to empty the water at all! How amazing!

  18. I love the looks of this and especially love the Auto Evaporation Technology. Thanks for the well done, informative review.

  19. We’ve had almost the coolest summer I can remember. Haven’t needed air conditioning but for a couple of days.

  20. This portable air conditioner sounds great! We actually just moved back to Texas from California, so I know how it is to have an apartment with no A/C! But now that we are back in Texas, I would really enjoy the dehumidifier option!

  21. My husband and I have been looking as getting a portable air conditioner at the end of season for next year, as we’ll be moving into a place without central air. Will be adding the Haier Portable Air Conditioner to our list thanks to this review. Love that you don’t have to fuss with emptying the water. Great review!

  22. This would be so nice for the times when you don’t want to cool the entire house!

  23. Wow, this is just what we need here. I live in a log cabin and I can’t add the wall ones. I can’t justify the expense of adding central air as we only need it about 6 to 8 weeks a year, this year its been cool and we don’t even need an air conditioner. We’ve had to close the windows at night as it’s been down right chilly, in July! Thanks I’ll look into this for the future.

  24. I have one I use for our bedroom during warm spells when the AC just doesn’t cool and I hate to keep watch on the water. This auto evaporating sounds great!

  25. I once had a compact air conditioner and hated having to vent it through a window – so hard and inconvenient. I’d love to see this one in action – can you do a YouTube for it?

  26. I think I could use this air on my second room bedroom.
I think Haier is a really good company, because I have owned a wine
    refrig. that I really liked

  27. This looks like the perfect portable air conditioner! Plus it is not much bigger than a fan so that works if you need it in a small area. This would be great for people who do not have central air and live in an apartment that gets too hot in the back.

  28. I live in a dry apartment near a main thoroghfare and just accepted it…leaving my balcony door open. Thank you for a wonderful solution.

  29. I love central air. However, if we ever buy another house, I would consider window units. It’s just the two of us and it seems wasteful to cool this big old house when we spend our time mainly in only a few rooms.

  30. This would be perfect for us. We use central air and have an older home. It has an upstairs with 3 bedrooms and a bath that we never use. It seems a shame to waste so much money cooling the whole house.

  31. I like that it’s a humidifier also as we use one lots. It also looks nice and compact and looks like it would fit our place nicely.

  32. Being completely hot natured, I LOVE the sound of this! I may have to invest in one!

  33. How I wish I had a Haier Portable Air Conditioner at my last job, my office was so hot and miserable and this would of made the working conditions much more pleasant, I like that it does not need to have water emptied, and also acts as a humidifier, very nice thank you

  34. I imagine using a portable air conditioner would really cut down on the electric bill. Some summers, ours seems to run 24/7.

  35. I’ve always wondered if this portable air conditioners really work. I could really use one in my bedroom so I do not have to cool the whole house

  36. Maybe I live under a rock, but I had no idea there was such a thing as a portable AC!! Good to know, as the ones ppl put in the window are too big to handle!!!

  37. Thanks so much for the Terrific Review on Haier Portable Air Conditioner Review #HaierAmbassador! I’ve often seen these in the stores and always wondered if they work! Now I know that they do. My husband doesn’t particularly like it because he says it has to be by a window in order for it to function correctly. I would love to have a portable Air Conditioner! Our house is way over 120 years old and when it’s cold outside, it’s cold inside and when it’s hot outside, it’s hot inside too! We have a wall unit in the dining room which does ok for the downstairs anyway. But, we need to have working window units in the bedrooms in order to get cool! Plus, my husband likes them turned on and off at certain times because of the electric bill! Oh well, anyway, thanks again for the Terrific Review, the pictures, and the information on Hair Portable Air Conditioner that you have shared with all of us! I truly do appreciate it! Thanks again! Michele 🙂

  38. I appreciate your tip about getting your ducts and vents clean to ensure good air quality when it comes to your HVAC system.

  39. The information you have shared in your article about portable AC is really helpful. After reading your article I decided to use this portable AC. I like to use this portable AC because of it doesn’t take up much space and is easy to move from one place to another place. Thanks for sharing this amazing information!
