As I have mentioned in previous posts, I worked at a dental office for a few months before I became pregnant. And while I wouldn’t consider myself a big expert on dental health, I can definitely say that I have learned A LOT about teeth and how to take care of it because of my constant communication with dentists and patients during that time.

I had to learn how to read teeth x-rays, memorize loads of dental abbreviations, understand the causes of dental problems, and know ways to improve one’s overall dental health. During times when dentists aren’t available to talk on the phone (which was almost always the case), it was my job to educate and encourage patients to take better care of their teeth. Otherwise patients will have needed to invest in health insurance or claim through their insurance to have their teeth taken care of, it’s better to take care of your teeth before it becomes to late.

And one surprising tip I learned during my stint at that dental office, for example, somewhere similar to this Dentist Framingham, was that chewing gum can help prevent cavities. Actually, let me be more specific… Chewing sugarless gum can help prevent cavities.

Did you know that Trident gum is the first national sugar-free gum in the US?

It’s one of the leading sugar-free gums in the market offering benefits to people who are concerned about their oral care. In fact, Trident sugar-free gum has been helping Americans maintain good oral health hygiene by helping fight cavities for 50 years!

This year, Trident is celebrating their 10-year partnership with Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America program (SAA), which provides oral disease prevention services for at-risk children who are underserved due to issues of poverty. Trident provided funding to launch SAA in 2004, and has already donated more than $2.5 million to date in support of the program which has impacted more than 2 million children.

Did you know that February is actually National Children’s Dental Health Month? Here are some oral health tips!

Trident wants to share some oral health tips from The Partnership for Healthy Mouths (a coalition of 36 leading organizations in the field of oral health) to keep the pearly whites of those young (and young at heart) healthy and happy all year long!

ORAL HEALTH TIP #1: Brush for 2 minutes twice a day.
It’s best for kids to brush their teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day for healthier teeth, good breath and fewer cavities. Children 2 or older should always use fluoride toothpaste.

ORAL HEALTH TIP #2: Visit a Dentist.
Kids and parents should visit a dentist regularly starting no later than age 1.

ORAL HEALTH TIP #3: Floss.
Kids should clean between their teeth once a day with floss to remove plaque and food where a brush can’t reach. Children as young as 2 can floss if their teeth are touching.

ORAL HEALTH TIP #4: Fluoride.
Fluoride is nature’s cavity fighter and can occur naturally in some water and food sources. Did you know that to help protect teeth from cavities fluoride is added to dental products like toothpaste?

ORAL HEALTH TIP #5: Chew Sugar-Free Gum.
Chewing sugar-free gum, like Trident, helps keep teeth clean after eating and between brushing. In fact, chewing Trident sugar-free gum after eating stimulates saliva flow, which helps reduce the risk of cavities by reducing plaque acids, removing debris and strengthening teeth. For an even happier smile, try a variety of delicious Trident flavors including: Original, Spearmint, Tropical Twist and Bubble Gum.
