Audrey Bunny | Children’s Book Review

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book “Audrey Bunny” for evaluation purposes. Thoughts are my own.

It’s been a long time since I read a book that made me tear up, or at least made my throat tighten like I’m about to cry. And it’s quite surprising that I felt that while reading a children’s book.

Audrey Bunny

From best-selling women’s author Angie Smith (I Will Carry You, Mended) comes this sweet children’s book about a stuffed animal named Audrey Bunny who fears her imperfections make her unworthy of a little girl’s love. She’ll learn the truth soon enough, and young readers will learn that everyone is special and wonderfully made by God.

I almost teared up reading this book because the main theme is so close to my heart. You see, when I was growing up, I always wanted to be perfect for my parents. I felt like I didn’t want to disappoint them and I wanted to always be an achiever both in school and at church. I studied hard so I can get good grades and I also volunteer a lot at church.

I knew I didn’t have to be perfect for my parents to love me, but I just wanted to be the perfect child. But because I always TRIED to be perfect, people started expecting me to actually BE perfect. So I felt like there was so much pressure for me to not make any mistakes because I was always the good daughter.

And that caused me to hide my imperfections from people. I later on realized that I don’t have to be perfect and that I should not pressure myself into becoming one. My family loves me for who I am.

Our families usually know about the imperfections we try to hide but they love us anyway. More so with God. He knows everything about us so we can’t really hide anything from Him. Yet He still died on the cross for our sins and He loves us anyway.

Sam reading Audrey Bunny

Audrey Bunny isn’t really a heavy story. It’s really a children’s book that tells kids that God loves them even though they’re not perfect. They don’t have to be like their peers. God loves them for who they are, for their uniqueness. But the book’s lesson is not exclusively for kids because even grownups can learn from it. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book!

  1. I think this is absolutely a beautiful book. I love books which not only entertain but also teach valuable lesson. Self worth and personal image are such teachings. And, you are right, adults need a beautiful book like Audrey Bunny. I also was the good girl in my family-far too much pressure.

  2. I like children’s books that encourage our kids to be themselves because God loves them for who they are. I’m glad that most books don’t stop there but also remind the reader that there is only one person who is perfect and that is God & He can help us to choose to do what is right.
