Juicy Lucy Burger Recipe

Ever since I saw a show on the Food Network featuring the Juicy Lucy burger from some restaurants in Minneapolis/Minnesota, I have been wanting to taste and feel how it is to eat a burger with cheese inside the patty. And last week, I finally decided to make my own Juicy Lucy since I can’t really travel to try out the original.

So I went to Save Mart to get some items that I’ll need for a delicious and juicy burger. The moment I entered the store, I was greeted by loads of #FreshFinds from fruits to vegetables to meat. And I noticed that most of those items were locally sourced. And it made me feel really good to know that I’m supporting local California businesses as I’m shopping for my family.

I picked up some ground beef, and fixings like tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and mayonnaise. I was so excited to get back home and do my own version of the Juicy Lucy Burger!  You can see my shopping trip to Save Mart by checking out my Google+ story.

Save Mart also has a promotion right now with Pepsi entitled “Explore The Grill“. And they are giving away a Big Green Egg Grill every day. Be sure to check that out!

Juicy Lucy Burger Recipe:

To create a Juicy Lucy burger, you will need the following:
– 1 lb Ground beef
– about 3 pinches of Salt
– Cheese
– Burger buns
– Tomato
– Cucumber
– Lettuce
– Onion
– Mayonnaise

Preparing the Juicy Lucy Burger

I only cooked the Juicy Lucy for me and my husband (little boy had his own meal) so we didn’t really need a lot of those ingredients. Now to create your burger:

1. Mix the ground beef and the salt. I recommend using your (clean) hands. 🙂
2. Form into equal-sized balls (1 lb of ground beef can make 6-8 balls) and flatten each into patties. For this step, I’d say the thinner, the better.
3. Lay a slice of cheese on 1 patty. You can actually add in another slice of cheese if you want.
4. Fold the corners of the patty so that it covers the edges of the cheese. This is one step that I didn’t do the first time I created this burger. This step prevents the cheese from leaking out when you fry it.
5. Place another patty on top of this so that the cheese is fully covered in ground beef. Fold the edges so that it creates another barrier for the cheese.
6. Fry over medium heat for about 4 minutes on each side. If your burger is thicker, cook for 5 minutes instead.
7. Serve with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion and an extra slice of cheese on a burger bun.

I hope you enjoy the Juicy Lucy burger as much as my husband and I did! 🙂
