Wordless Wednesday – Satisfying My Craving

wordless wednesday

I was craving for some halo-halo earlier today so I decided to make some!

Halo halo 1
HaloHalo

No idea what a “halo-halo” is? Check out this video!

It’s pretty easy to make. You just need some shaved ice, milk, and at least 3 of the following:
– Sweet Bananas (saba)
– Sweet White Beans
– Sweet Red Mung Beans
– Sweet Red Kaong
– Sweet Garbanzos
– Purple Yam Jam
– Jackfruit

Halo-halo actually means “mixed” in Tagalog. That said, just put one tablespoon of each ingredient in a glass, add the shaved ice,  and pour some evaporated milk in. Some people prefer to add some sugar but since all the ingredients in it are already sweet, I didn’t bother to add sugar in mine. You can also make it a “special” halo-halo by topping it with some ice cream or leche flan.

  2. I saw this episode of Anthony Bourdain (if any of you have not watched, i tis a must see not just for the food but for culture!) and was fascinated with so much of the Filipino food, including the beautiful, yet odd-looking at the same time, halo-halo. The is quite a large Filipino community in my city so I have to track it down and try it!

  3. Wow, looks delicious. I had never heard of halo-halo. Now that I have I want some!

  4. My sister, brother-in-law, and I watch Parts Unknown all the time & we were discussing how delicious the spam sandwich looked.

  5. Pineapple on a Burger? Hmmmm Gonna have to try that one. We make this really good open faced tuna salad on a English Muffin. We open the muffin spread tuna salad, put a sliced pinapple on top & then a slice of American cheese & put them in the toaster oven until the cheese is melted & a tad brown. That’s it. Sound tasty? It is very good! Try it. Thanks for sharing & have a great day!

  6. I had never heard of it before. Can you describe the taste? Compare it to something else? I’m so curious. If I can find it in my area I’d love to try it.

  7. I’m craving for one right now. We live near a Chowking restaurant here in Dubai so I always order whenever there’s a craving for something delectable. Halo-halo is my quick fix!
