Revealing Jesus Devotional & Worship Album Review

Revealing Jesus Devotional

If there’s one thing I need on a daily basis, it’s time for the Lord — a time to just read and meditate on His Word, a time to sing songs to Him, and a time to just be reminded that God is with me throughout the day. And I like daily devotionals that remind me of God’s grace, faithfulness, goodness and mercy. Thanks to Bethany House, I received a copy of the Revealing Jesus Devotional and the Revealing Jesus Worship Album CD/DVD.

Entitled “Revealing Jesus: A 365-Day Devotional”, this book is authored by renowned worship leader Darlene Zschech.

Darlene Zschech is the composer of the popular worship song “Shout To The Lord” and probably hundreds of other songs we sing at church. She was the one that started producing the worship songs and albums that led to the emergence of other great worship leaders like Brooke Fraser.

Since she is such a woman of worship, I got curious to know how her devotionals would be. And since this collection of devotions has been designed to accompany her Revealing Jesus album, I was excited to watch the DVD right away. The live worship album included video clips of Darlene Zschech and 3 other popular worship leaders — Israel Houghton, Kari Jobe and Michael W. Smith.

The Revealing Jesus worship album wasn’t only a straightforward recording of a live worship.

I loved that they explained what the songs meant, shared to the listener the significance of the words sung so that we don’t just blurt out empty words with melody. Since they shared how the songs affected their worship experience, it lets the listener and the reader get into a deeper level of worship.

I think my favorite song in there is “In Jesus’ Name”. It starts off with “God is fighting for us, God is on our side. He has overcome. We will not be shaken, we will not be moved” and I love it! I think when so many things go wrong in our lives, it’s easy to forget that God is with us. Or perhaps I speak for myself. That there are times when I’d feel discouraged because of something that didn’t turn out the way I expected. But it’s great to be reminded that we sometimes don’t get exactly what we expect but that doesn’t mean God has turned His back on us.

Each Revealing Jesus devotion reflects on grace given to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

This devotional brings us closer to Jesus one day at a time. Each daily devotion is kept short but with substance so that we can devote more time to worship and pray. Each date has a specific devotion assigned to it so if you’re buying it in the middle of the year, you can just decide to start in the middle which is what I did so I wouldn’t get confused with the dates. But I still read the ones for January when I have extra time.

Both the songs on the album and the devotions in the book are all centered on one thing — or should I say person — and that is Jesus. Every Christian wants to be more like Jesus — and let me clear that, we want to be like Jesus, not be Jesus. But how can we be more like Jesus if we don’t spend as much time getting to know Him?

BUY IT! You may purchase Revealing Jesus 365-day Devotional on Amazon.com in hardcover and Kindle editions.
