Silkn Flash&Go HPL Hair Removal Device Review

One of the things we women need to do is remove unwanted body hair. A lot of us shave, some use tweezers to take unwanted body hair out one by one, some women wax, and some — usually the ones with the budget for it — undergo laser hair removal similar to the best laser hair removal in Houston. They say the most effective way to permanently remove body hair is by undergoing laser hair removal since it disables hair growth in every treatment. However, the results for light-based hair removal (IPL or HPL) cannot be seen instantly. It is, as they say, a slow but sure way to remove body hair permanently.

I had the awesome opportunity to try out the Silkn Flash&Go HPL Hair Removal Handheld device. According to the Silkn website:

Silk’n Flash&Go is an innovative light-based device for permanent facial and body hair removal. The new high tech design of the Flash&Go applicator allows individuals to properly target and zone into any area that requires treatment. No area is too big or too small!

The box includes 1 unit with narrow lamp cartridge, 1 extra narrow lamp cartridge (gives you a total of 2000 flashes), a power cord, an instructional manual and an instructional DVD. This product is for people who want to permanently get rid of unwanted body hair. People can use it to treat even sensitive areas such as the bikini line or even the upper lip.

It’s not laser treatment for removal of body hair, but it utilizes a similar technology called Home Pulsed Light (HPL) which can be used safely and effectively in an at-home environment.

The HPL technology is safe for home use because it has a skin sensor that detects skin color to prevent burns, and it has a skin-touch mechanism that only makes it fire when it’s in direct contact with the skin. HPL is very similar to laser but just safer to be used at home by non-professionals. Silkn also presents a more detailed comparison between laser and HPL on the website.

The Silkn Flash&Go plugs directly into a power socket. There are no batteries needed to be charged. Once you plug it in and turn it on, the device is ready for use. You don’t need to wait for it to recharge in between clicks.

What I really love about this is that it’s an affordable way to permanently remove unwanted body hair. Granted, there is a $299 startup cost which may seem expensive. But a single laser body hair removal session at a clinic or spa ranges from $100 to $800 depending on the size of the area being treated. Each area will need at least 3-6 treatments. So getting this device, which already has 2 lamps (1 lamp has a limit of 1,000 pulses), for $299 is already a great deal!

I have only had 3 treatments using the Silkn Flash&Go. Each treatment has to be spaced every 2 weeks. The first time I treated myself with it, I noticed the following morning that some hairs did not grow from the previous day. Some remained looking like it was just shaved while some grew about a millimeter. I then got my tweezer and checked the ones that didn’t grow. I tugged at them lightly and some came out very easily without pain. So I guess those were the ones that were targeted by the Silkn device during my treatment.

I still need a lot of treatments since I have pretty thick hair in the areas where I don’t want it. It says on their website that the device can only target the ones that are on the “growing phase” so it can’t target the ones that aren’t in that phase for the time being so it would probably take me a couple more treatment sessions to actually see great results from this. I will also be using the maximum setting next time just to help speed up the process. I admit I have been such a coward. I’ve been using only the minimum setting for my first 2 treatments and using the middle setting on my 3rd. My last session wasn’t so painful so I could probably manage the maximum setting next time.

I wish I could have a magic wand to be hair-free in the areas I want! lol Thank you for the review! =)

  3. oh the time and money I could save by not having to shave. I’ve often considered electrolysis until I researched the cost. This looks more practical!

  4. I wish I had one of these. I had having so shave so often and laser hair removal is so expensive. Thanks for the review and I think if i had the extra money it would be something I could like to try. I did not even know there was a product like this.

  7. These things always seem too good to be true. It is hard for me to think that something like this could work. Even if it dose work, I can not afford something like this! 🙁 guess I will be sticking to shaving.

  8. This is the perfect gift or me. I made my husband read it to make sure he got me the right one. Thank you. Love this

  9. i would like to try this, i have tried several at dr. offices and spent lots of $$$, however, nothing seems to work on light colored or blonde hair….i could not find where it said it would work on blonde hair…

  10. i just love the idea of not having to shave. the horrid razor burn I get no matter what I try is enough to drive me insane. This looks like the way to go. what a great review

  11. I have never heard or seen of this before thank you for the review and giveaway so I can learn about it and hopefully get a chance to try something new.

  12. wow this product sounds so awesome. I think all of us would be lucky to win it and try it out for ourselves. I hate shaving and razor burn and am always looking for alternatives. Creams get messy and uneven and waxing hurts! :/ Thank you so much for the chance to win!

  15. Great review of the product. I hate shaving and being on certain medications does make hair show up on my face alot so this should really help me with that problem. Well it is sure worth a try for me on my hairly legs . I hate the other wax things and such OUCH

  16. This sounds like the perfect device for me . I hate shaving but dont want to do waxing and well cant afford laser treatments in the salon ! I like how safe it is the use and you get pretty much the same treatment and results as a salon but for a cheaper price ! thanks for the review

  17. Thanks for reviewing this. I’m always interested in these types of products because I have a lot of unwanted hair from PCOS. I don’t want to drop the initial money on a device if it doesn’t work. I’d love to keep hearing how this works for you!

  18. I’ve been told laser treatment is the best but am also aware of the high expense. Coupled with numerous appointments, gas money and time, I’d rather stay home and use FLASH&GO!

  19. Hmmmm…sounds a litle painful but sometimes pain is necessary to get rid of issues! LOL! And this is definitely less expensive than a doctor’s visit! Very cool that this doesn’t need to be charged before first use…that is unheard of with any product out of the box!

  20. This sounds like an awesome product, and I would love to hear any follow up reviews, how well it kept the hair away after a couple more treatments! I, too, have always been scared of the pain with products like these, so I really appreciate your honest review. I have been seeing the commercial for a competing product and have been curious, but with the price tag, wanted to know how well it really worked before buying it! Sounds like this one has some promise! Thanks again for your great review!

  21. I would love something that would end the problem I started having since pre menopause. On my chin, both sides, dark wiry hair has been growing & it gets extremely itchy & the hairs are ingrown & hurt. I saw a dermatologist & no help, He just said shave or use Neet. Well Neet burned me. If this works I would be totally awesome.

  22. This would be wonderful to have. I just hate shaving & it has to be every three days. This is just SUPER!

  23. I would love to have this. This device would be great for those of us that are unable to budget for hair removal at a salon. Frankly, I like that you may use it at home as I am a very modest person and would prefer that.

  24. Talk about a Christmas gift you could really love!!!!! oh yah this is something that would get alot of use

  25. I did not know that they made these for home use, that is so awesome. This just went to the top of my Christmas list! I’ve always thought how awesome it would be to not have to shave every day. The time and money you would save is so worth it but I just could not afford to have electrolysis. Thank you so much for the chance to win this!!!

  26. I would love to give this Silk’n Flash & Go a try. Thanks for the review on this product and for the opportunity to win it.

  27. Sounds very interesting. Never heard of it before.
Having PCOS I desperately need something that actually works. So I have high hopes for this product.
Thank you so much for sharing.

  28. It is great to know that it is working. But you mentioned some pain, so I am assuming it is a tad painful while doing?

    • Yes when you trigger it to flash, it would hurt a bit. You can lower the setting though so it wouldn’t be too painful. But I think the max setting is most effective especially for me since I have pretty thick hair.

  33. It would certainly be wonderful to remove unwanted hair without spending the money to have it professionally done. Sounds like a great product that I’d love to try!

  34. This looks fantastic…and oh, if I could get rid of hairy legs..it would be heavenly 🙂

  35. Wow, This sounds cool. And even if it takes time……No biggie. I would have had the hair there anyway without the treatments LOL. My body hair isn’t very thick or course so I might see fast results. I’m definitely entering the giveaway. Thanks for your input.

  36. The Silkn Hair Remover seems like a product worth it’s weight in gold, no matter how slow it is to see results.

  37. omg! i could sooooo use one of these. i’m getting really tired of waxing my mustache…..and shaving ‘other’ areas.

  38. I also admit to this stuff being alittle scary but would love it if i didnt have to shave all the time thanks for the giveaway!!

  39. I wish I had an extra $300, I would totally buy this! I would love to not worry about shaving every few days! Especially having 3 small kids and 2 teenagers, I hardly haave time to take a shower! Shaving is just a nuisance!

  40. I dread shaving my legs and underarms for fear of cutting my skin, as I don’t heal well from having lupus. A completely non-shaving way to remove hair would be marvelous!

  41. I would love to be able to try this product since someone has tried it with success 🙂

  42. I think that it is worth the money if it removes the hair permanently. The professional treatments are really pricey and this would pay for itself in just three uses. Thanks for the coupon.

  43. I would love to win this..I get a skin rash on my legs… if i use a regular razor it opens them and i usually have to use 10 bandaids on each leg..Thank you

  44. I have wanted one of these for a long time. I’ve tried all the hair removal products and wasted money. All they are is fine sandpaper attached to some device you hold and rub. One product actually had the “3M” mark on the pads on the back, indicating it WAS sandpaper, sheesh.

  45. My skin is super sensitive, so first I would like to thank you for letting us know that it has a skin tone sensor… That would have worried me like crazy! Never having to shave again would be a dream come true.. Every time I shave, no matter what I use, I get really bad razor burn.. Creams, gels, foams, soaps, lotions, none of it stops the burn.. Its horrid!!!

  46. Dear Santa,

  47. I really want to try this, I’ve had laser before and i couldnt afford to continue beyond 2 sessions. and i’m really curious how your results turn out.

  48. would love to give this to my wife as a gift. She has been wanting to go have some hair removed via laser, but this sounds like it will do the trick for a lot less

  49. These items look awesome to try! I have wanted to try one of these at home hair removal systems for a while. I think I may just give it a try!
